Vol. 1 has an overview of N&W steam power with action on the west end of the Railroad at Kenova, Portsmouth and Columbus. Steam classes J (4-8-4), Y (2-8-8-2), A (2-6-6-4), and S (0-8-0) in service. Vol. 2 concentrates on the Roanoke area with views at Schaeffer's Crossing Roundhouse, Roanoke Shops, Passenger Depot, Yards and the famed 12-mile grade at Blue Ridge. More classes of steam shown. Vol. 3 has dramatic views shot in summer, fall and winter of N&W operations at the Shenandoah Valley Line. Local passenger and freight trains pulled by K class 4-8-2's and Y6 class 2-8-8-2's and M class 4-8-0's. Vol. 4 shows the movement of coal from mines in WV to the coal transfer docks at Lambert Point in Norfolk. Y class 2-8-8-2's haul and transfer to A class 2-6-6-4's with the crossing of Blue Ridge requiring helpers and pushers. Vol. 5 has N&W's greatest passenger trains in the 1950's with J, K, M, and E class steam locos. You'll see the famed J class 611 at 90 mph on its 1959 retirement run! Also the Powhatan Arrow, the Pocahontas, the Tennessean, the Pelican and the Cavalier. Vol. 6 has freight and big electric power hard at work on coal trains, freight, local freights, pushers and hump service. Rare action film in the 1930's with authentic sound. Vol. 7 is more steam action of the 50's with a lot of actual sound at Cincinnati, Portsmouth, a rainy day at Bonsack. Many classes include J, K1, K2, A and Y. View these with or without narration.
