Taking a Spin A behemoth Northern Pacific 4-8-4 eases out of the roundhouse and onto the turntable as it prepares for its next run. This wheel arrangement was the first of its kind when it was developed in the 1920s by the American Locomotive Company’s design engineers, built to haul the largest passenger trains. Their new locomotive, boasting a massive firebox that was supported by a four-wheel trailing truck, was dubbed the “Northern.” This was such a successful design, the Northern Pacific ordered ten more Class A-2 “Northerns” from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1934, including the 2650 shown here on its snowy journey.Delight your friends and family with this high-quality Christmas card that's sure to warm hearts and bring lots of smiles!
