The Morning Star On a December morning in the 1940s, a hefty ALCO-built 4-8-4 rushes the Saint Louis Southwestern Railway’s train called the Morning Star through a rural village in northeastern Texas. Perhaps it is no coincidence that the town's church steeple is pointing to the morning star in the sky above. The sun is just coming up as the train’s thunderous on-time passing awakens the villagers and the local café’s fresh pot of coffee beckons to them. Rising from bed, they will be delighted to find that a passing storm front has dropped an inch or two of snow in the night, holding out promise for a "White Christmas," which is a rare and special occurrence in this part of the country.
