DM&IR Yellowstones- Giants of Steam DVD
The Duluth, Missabe, & Iron Range Railway was noted for operating some of the largest steam locomotives in the world, the giant 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone-type engines. These locomotives with tender weighed over one million pounds, and had more high tractive effort than the famous UP Big Boy locomotives. Through the 16-mm films and the authentic audio, treat yourself to the sights and sounds of these monsters in action during the final years of their operation. Shot in 1958 and 1959, watch several different Yellowstones in action, including #227. You will learn some history of the DM&IR including the ore operations. If you like big steam, then this video is for you because it doesn't get much bigger than this! 30 minutes.
